That was a fun episode to listen to guys. I haven’t watched these particular Moffat episodes recently, but they stick in my mind enough to have a clear picture of what happened in them. These two are easily my favorite episodes from Eccleston’s run.
Fun episode as always. These two episodes were some of my favorite from Series 1. I remember thing from the “Next time…” teaser that it looked like a really cheesy episode, but watching them late at night in the dark scared the crap out of me and I’m 28. haha
A few points:
1.) I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree gentlemen. I LOVE Torchwood and I love the characterization of Jack. He’s a badass and a gay badass at that and I love every episode.
But I agree with you, he was a lot of fun here. Him flirting with Rose near Big Ben was wonderful.
2.) I disappointed that you didn’t mention one of my favorite moments in the episode. At the end, when the Doctor is reversing the curse. The Doctor says, “Just this once, Rose. Just this once…EVERYONE LIVES!!!”
HAHAHA…..never thought about it, but it is the only episode I can think of with a 0 body count.
I hope you didn’t misunderstand and think that we don’t like post-Series One Jack. We really just love the way he was portrayed before becoming the character he is on Torchwood. We definitely still like Jack in any incarnation, just prefer the way he was portrayed here. He was just a little less of the caricature of himself he eventually became…
But then, I guess anyone would change a bit after being left to wait around for a 100 years or so…
Yeah, I definitely like Jack in any incarnation. I just think he’s at his best when his character feels natural. However, I’m not a big Torchwood fan, so we can still disagree on that one. I tried again and couldn’t get past season 1. I hear it gets better. Maybe I’ll just skip.
Also, in regards to your 0 body count thing. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Moffat’s episodes have never actually killed a character. They’ve all died of old age, or some other natural causes. The Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, etc. I’m wondering if that will be the way it is in the new season for the most part.
torchwood is a good idea that was wasnt pulled off as well as i’d hoped. I love torchwood, but it can get way too sexual (normally not a bad thing) for no apparent reason other than to shock. When its good, its GREAT, when its bad…..its pretty bad. However I think that the children of earth mini season showed how good the show can be because that was incredible, even if you dont watch the show, i still recomend that.
I’m about halfway through the second series of Torchwood, and I have been enjoying it a bit more than the first. I still like Doctor Who a lot more, but Torchwood is at least an interesting diversion for me until the new DW series begins.
This was a great show guys, the empty child was the first Doctor Who episode that I watched back in 2005. I gotta say that my favorite scene was when the Doctor when he says to himself: “Please just give me this, only one time” and then he reverse all the people to their normal selves and says “Rose, today nobody dies!” And I love it if only because se he said it with an smile that is borderline crazy and happy.
I just realize that in most of Moffat episodes no one really died, and the Doctor was able to save everyone.
I wonder what are your favorite scenes from each of the rest of the Moffat episodes?
These two are the episodes that made me LOVE the show, they stink rank high on my list…and really, who can not think a little boy in a gas mask is creepy?
These are the two episodes that made me want more 9th doctor, and is where my head goes most when remembering him.
