Love the show. I'm listening to this ep right now and you're talking about This Year's Girl and Who Am I. I just thought I'd let you know what most people think 5x5 means. 5x5 is code that pilots and military people use to say that they're okay. That they can see and hear well. So if it's foggy, but they can hear people on their comms fine, they might say 5x3 or something along those lines. Many fans of Buffy think that this is a hint that Faith's father was in the military or something like that. Just an interesting bit of information.

The cause of Buffy and Riley's breakup wasn't due to his lack of superpowers. It's because Riley never understood why Buffy couldn't completely seperate herself from the evil/darkness that she was chosen to fight; he never got that it was internal within her. As much as she tried to convince herself that she just wants a "normal life," she eventually comes to realize that being a slayer means embracing the dark/evil within her that she must fight. Riley was the last dying hope that being a slayer meant she could only fight evil without truly understanding it; ie: understanding evil by embracing the true source of her powers. After "Fool for Love," Spike makes Buffy conscious of this fact: she's in love with death. Riley could never understand this...and this was something that both Spike and Angel understood even before Buffy did. Hell, even Dracula knew this and he was only around for 1 episode. Hence the reason why the Riley/Buffy relationship lacked the real and raw passion that she shared with Angel and Spike. Riley, to a certain extent, was really scared of Buffy's desire to flirt with her own internal darkness; his fight against evil had always been so cut and dry. It was something he got recruited into reletively late in life while Buffy was born with this responsibility and understood intrinsically that the fight against evil is never black and white because there is a whole spectrum of grey; Buffy as a character, represents this embodiment of good and evil, light and dark. Riley will never be able to understand this, hence the reason why he had to go. He came to the realization that she'll always be treading to a place that he either can't touch or won't have the ability to comprehend.

Great to hear the second half of BTVS_S4. My $.02
* The Initiative & Adam stank like a sweaty feyarl demon
* Wile I liked Tara as a character I too never thought Amber B's acting really brought her out.
* Hush was the best episode of this season.
