I’ll go into more details on the forum, but I did want to mention here that I absolutely loved the new Trek. It did everything that needed to be done in order to breathe new life into the franchise. Fast, fun, and entertaining. But meanwhile, it still managed to maintain a good sense of humor, and keep around an intelligent plot.
In fact, my biggest problems with the movie were actually minor aesthetic changes that the made. For instance, I’ve never cared much for the new-look Romulans (Though, I understand why they were changed. The movie is all about setting all of the races apart from each other). In addition, I didn’t much care for the look of the ship phasers in the movie. The pulsing phasers make the weapons systems look weaker, to me. I would have preferred to see them mixed up a bit. Small phaser cannons and main phaser cannons.
Otherwise, I loved just about everything in the movie. Everyone should give it a shot, and return to let us know what you thought. Enjoy!
I absolutely loved Star Trek. I was super-jazzed last night after getting out of the screening.
I loved how the movie was very character driven (and still manages to have a ton of epic spectacle and action), and I was surprised at how funny it was. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Karl Urban all do very well in their roles. Simon Pegg is also full of hilarious energy. I don’t think there was a line of his that failed to get a big laugh from the audience.
Trek is a great ride, and I plan on seeing it again this weekend.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this movie. This is one of the better ST movies though it is awfully wacky.
I LOVED this movie, I thought it was perfectly cast and directed, it was everything I was hoping for. I wasnt a fan of the original show (I was more of a next gen kinda guy) so maby I missed some of the little annoyances, but I thought it was fantastic.
I got back from the movie an hour ago. LOVED IT!!! I almost jumped up and cheered when Scotty said his famous line during the final battle.
The Perfect Summer Blockbuster. Brilliant. I loved it.
possibly the best thing I’ve seen all year, loved it so much
This was a beautiful love letter to Star Trek. This is what they tried to do in the last episode of Enterprise but failed miserably at. This movie got it right.
When Leonard Nemoy told a young Kirk “I am now and always will be your friend” tears brimmed in my eyes. Karl Urban channeling nearly beat for beat Deforest Kelly made my heart ache in pure joy. Simon Pegg looking like he had the time of his life made me excitable. At the end when I recited along with the opening monologue and nearly wept.
And when my friend poked me afterwords and said, “that was awesome, I really want to watch the original series now” I thought to myself…
Yes, this movie was a crowd pleaser with more explosions than discussions of humanism and diplomacy. No, there wasn’t enough establishment of the utopian society and the Nokia product placement made me queasy… But hearing a person say that to me made me ignore all of that. Because what it did was make the average person who might otherwise have never watched Trek in any form want to go back and watch it made me so overjoyed that I dropped any obnoxious fangirl nitpicks I might otherwise have for the movie and embraced it for what it was: a tribute and introduction to the world of Trek.
Really good movie, I would recommend everyone go see its.
