Wolverine Reshoots said to be “Extensive.”
Saturday, January 17th, 2009
Fox Studios have announced that director Gavin Hood and the cast and crew of X Men Origins: Wolverine are returning to Toronto for massive reshoots. Some people may not remember this, but back when Wolverine was still filming, reports of on set scuffling between Gavin Hood and the Fox peons were frequent. Everything from plot, tone, even the color of sets were brought into question by Fox and Hood even admitted that at times it felt like he wasn’t making the movie he wanted to make.
Now it looks like Fox is letting him.
I consider this to be a good thing, and no Randy its not my blind hatred towards Fox. I think that after a weak 2008, Fox needs a badass, hardcore Wolverine movie that will not only open big, but stay in theaters for more than a couple of weeks, like Iron Man. The fact that they’re letting Hood go back and reshoot scenes of the film the way he envisioned is great in my opinion, though I can’t help but wonder how much of the awesome trailer we saw was of Hood’s creation or Fox’s commission? Maybe Hood’s vision was a deep, multi-layered, action-lite character study? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see…

Well,Nick, I’m worried that I might be seeing it from the opposite side of the coin. The reports were that changes were being made that Hood was not comfortable with, and in some cases, changes that were made without asking Hood. I’m hoping that these reshoots aren’t being mandated by the studio. It seems like kind of last minute for Hood to be wanting to do reshoots now, isn’t it?
I definitely agree that a director should get to make the movie he was hired to make. Otherwise, why hire a director at all?
Well, why hre a star for your film? It’s another name that can bring in another audience
But a director’s vision should be just that. I really hate seeing a lot of films in theatres now when I know that when it comes out on DVD, I’ll see the director’s cut. I want to see that from the start – not half a movie that studios want to show me. But of course that doesn’t make more $$$ for the studios so what we as an audience wants is secondary.
