This is now on my “cannot wait list.” THAT is how you make a friggin’ X-Men trailer!
That certainly was an exciting glimpse at the movie.
I liked the trailer, but I HATED the music. It completely didn’t fit the trailer, and I think it would have been better with a different choice for the music. They could even pick something that is similar in style (epic choir), but I just didn’t like this piece of music at all.
I did think it was amusing that they tried to hide the fact that this was a comic movie at the beginning of the trailer, making it seem almost like a normal period drama.
Yeah this has me excited now. The comic con one had me worried. Glad they are telling the story, “Origin” of his past. It’s really good. But no Gambit line in it? Don’t tease me like that. Deadpool needs the mask though. If he’s sleeveless and/or maskless, I will be upset.
All the other characters in it are cool.
I’m sure the images of Deadpool were before he had to wear the mask. This movie is obviously going to be taking place over a long period of time. I mean they have to show Ryan Reynold’s pretty face.
wish there was more sceen time of gambit, but it rocketh my world completly. I may have just goo’d my pants.
Wow…I was worried about this.. but this has allayed(sp?) all my fears. Go Wolverine!
lol mudkip lover did you goo your pants to the trailer, or did a pic of a mudkip catch your eye?
Yeah, they are so gonna hide Gambit until the last possible second. I think they know their hardcore fanbase is salivating for that. And I think they know that everyone just wants to hear the voice more than anything else.
Other than that I am frankly surprised and blown away. After the debacle that was X3 I didn’t think I’d ever be excited for another X movie. Color me surprised and excited. This could be a sleeper hit of the summer for me.
Gambit sucks. Colossus is the best!
@SpikeBad – too bad Gambit looks like he will probably be a great translation, while Colossus’ big screen debut was atrocious in X3 (which is so sad considering his cameo in X2 was so good…)
The first time i watched this trailer the fan in me went giddy with joy. But the second time i saw it, and the excitement wore off, I was disappointed. It just looks like it’s taking advantage of all the potential for this film to be really lame. Like, what’s with Gambit’s haircut? And the whole, “I’m gonna cut of your head and see if that works.” line was just too lame for me.
It’s a shame because Hugh Jackman is such a badass as wolverine. I really don’t want to see a lame Wolverine movie. But time will tell, this is only a trailer.
It’s weird if you had asked me two months ago if that there would be two trailers coming out soon, one of them a new terminator movie, and the other being a stand-alone Wolverine film, I would have gone on and on about Weapon X and how exciting that could be. But now I find myself more excited about a fourth Terminator film. sad
I can’t agree with the whole “After X3 I didn’t think we’d see another good X-Men Movie” argument. And the reason is that X3 was a fluke. It should have been just as good as the second and first movies. However, because the studio got greedy and had to move forward with it way to fast, it ended up being crap. A crap director with a completely unrealistic timeline for release. It almost seems like they made this move to spite Bryan Singer.
X-Men is the type of franchise that just needs a decent story and enough care to give it what it needs to survive. Whereas I feel that franchises like Daredevil, Punisher, and the Hulk need a really compelling stories with a director that has the right vision. You really have to know the core of the character, because that’s when it becomes special. With X-Men, the premise itself is special. So as long as you don’t make retarded decisions like having Magneto leading an army of mutants who all have the powers of a human flea, you should be set.
Now, that is for X-Men as a whole. A Wolverine movie is completely different, because again you deal with the individual character, and I think that’s always a little more risky. Because again, you rely heavily in the story. So, I’m not saying that that this particular movie is on autopilot and will definitely be good. Just that the movie shouldn’t be punished for what came before it.
I think a lot of people are setting themselves up for a huge Gambit disappointment. It’s one of those characters that is a LOT easier to pull off in written word than on screen. Those unique speech patterns rarely work out completely like they are in the comics. That’s why Rogue ended up differently. That’s also why a lot of people were so disappointed with her.
If you are looking for an exact translation to the big screen, you are going to be disappointed. Other than a few lines that were inserted for the sake of fanboys everywhere, I doubt we will see much of a literal translation. After all, movie Wolverine doesn’t say “Bub” every sentence he speaks.
However, I definitely think that the movie version of Gambit will be fantastic. Taylor is a fantastic actor from what I’ve seen. That’s completely my opinion, so everyone may not groove on that, but I will be completely in love with the character if the script holds up. I’m actually surprised we’ve seen as much of him in this trailer as we did. Got to see quite a bit of the Bo-staff action. Still no brown coat, but if that ends up being the entire direction witht he purple clothes, I would understand.
I think it looks awesome. I hope this redeems the X-men franchise.
To be honest, I’ll watch Last Stand if its on TV. It isn’t terrible, it was just a disappointment compared to the last one.
This trailer makes me happy in many many ways. Though I agree with Randy, that the Gambit hype is going to be a lot to live up to. He looks fabulous (I mean as the character. . . but he ain’t hard on the eyes, that’s for sure) and the scenes they’ve shown made me squee, and rather loudly at that, I’m trying not to be too psyched. I am positively LOVING Liev Schrieber as Sabertooth. Now THAT looks like a match for Wolverine. All in all – this and Trek are officially my “I-can’t-wait-to-see-them” films of 2009!
I think this looks pretty great (him taking down a chopper might be abit much) and to me it looks like they cast it fantastically. I noticed they cut the “god damn head off” down to just “head off” probly to make the trailer run infront of more movies.
BTW at 01:52, does anybody else think that might be a young storm?, just a thought.
I’m pretty sure it is Storm. I read on another site that it is. She and a child Cyclopes are making cameos… at least according to the Wolverine movie wiki page.
Oh, cool I didnt know that…not sure how much I like that. It seems fine to tie it into the universe, but would they really of bumped into eachother? and did they just forget him when they met again later?
I suppose we’ll find out in the movie.
Depends on how they do it. If it’s just a brief little thing, where Wolverine doesn’t even really see them and vice versa, or a quick little glimpse I wouldn’t question their not remembering him as an adult or vice versa.
I was in awwww when i saw the trailer to this movie. But I think Wolverine will run into the younger versions of the x-men. For example there was a little african girl with white hair shown for a brief second who I think was storm as a child. Which was at 1:52 – 1:53 in the trailer. And since it’s mainly focused on Wolverine I hope we get alot of more HARDCORE fights of him especially when he fights Sabbertooth. I understand that they want to get kids to go see this film too, but he was given those claws to slice, dice, and stab his opponents.
