Superman Gets Some Brotherly Love?
Wednesday, February 11th, 2009
Rumblings of a Superman reboot have been making the rounds for months now, causing everyone to wonder who would be behind the camera. Today, we may have our answer…
Who’s directing Superman?
It’s the big question on the minds of a lot of comic fans. After the mostly disappointing performance of Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, a 150 minute love letter to Richard Donner’s 1978 original film, Warner has been dancing with the idea of a complete relauch of the character.
Then, a few months ago, it was revealed that comic scribe Mark Millar (Wanted, Ultimates, Superman: Red Son) had an idea for a Superman trilogy that he was trying to sell to Warner Bros. It would tell the story of Superman from his birth on Krypton, to his eventual death on Earth thousands of years in the future. Not only that, but Millar claimed to have a “big time action director” interested in his take on the project.
Today, a rumor making the rounds claims that not only is a Superman trilogy on the fast track at Warner, but they’ve chosen a director to bring Big Blue back to the big screen. Or should I say… directors?
The Wachowski Brothers are directing Superman.
Director James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) spilled the beans during an interview in Berlin to chat about the progress of his new film, the Wachowski produced Ninja Assassin. When asked what was next for him, he confirmed that he had signed on for second unit support of the Wachowski’s next film, Plastic Man, which is a script they’ve been trying to get produced since before The Matrix. But, the film has been delayed indefinitely due to Warner’s current shake-up in the DC movie department.
He then stated that Bryan Singer has refused to get behind a Superman reboot of any kind, leaving executives at WB with no choice but to turn elsewhere for a fresh creative direction.
The Wachowski Brothers have been approached by Warner Bros to helm a reboot of the Superman franchise as a trilogy. He said that they haven’t signed everything quite yet, but if they do, he will either move to second unit duties on that film, or be promoted to direct Plastic Man.
Bryan Singer, meanwhile, will be moving on to his remake of Logan’s Run that he’s been trying to get off the ground for a long time.
Is the Wachowski Superman trilogy and the Mark Millar Superman trilogy one in the same? Nothing is known for sure, but I for one, am excited at the prospect of the Wachowski Brothers directing Superman. I just hope they’re not writing the script.

this actually made me happy, and I’m a Marvel fan
This sounds amazing and I could not be happier. I was actually one of the few who absolutely adored Speed Racer.
I loved Speed Racer! :D
A Wachowski Superman would definitely be a different direction…hopefully a good one.
Speed Racer is a gem, I love that film. And I think the Wachowskis would make a Superman movie that no one has ever seen before. That being said, I’d also be excited about their Plastic Man movie, but I wouldnt be oppopsed to McTeague directing is, or Superman for that matter. I dug V For Vendetta. Wow, just good news all around
Do you like the book?
Thought I’d dig up this old thread
