Raimi Given “Full Creative Control” of Spiderman 4
Sunday, March 29th, 2009
In what can only be described as “reassuring” news, Sam Raimi recently told Empire Magazine that he has been given full creative control over the story of Spiderman 4 by the Big Studio Guys. For those who remember (and will never forget) Raimi’s vision of Spiderman 3 had to be compromised to the insistence of Avi Arad (and fanboys) that Venom be included in the movie, leading to a very awkward and disappointing film experience.
Unfortunately, we know little else about the film, other than Tobey Maguire will still be playing Peter Parker/Spiderman and that Raimi really wants Kristen Dunst back as Mary Jane Watson, but she has yet to commit to it. Oh, and that the film will be out by May of 2011.

Sorry, but I’m not excited at all
Hey, not everything can be Eagle Eye 2
hey if they’re gonna push out another Spider-man they can make anything apparently. Delgo 2? Miss March 2? sure everything else gets a fourth chance why not give that crap a second?
I’ll say it: best forced why-the-heck-was-there-a-sequel?
Jewel of the Nile. :P
Spiderman 5 directed by DJ Curuso. Staring Shia Laboof
Okay, okay, in all seriousness: Emma Stone as Mary Jane Watson. Think about it.
She’s fine but it’s an annoying fan habit to cast people based on hair color. Anyone can dye their hair red.
Whoever it is, I pity them. It’s career poison to play “boring girlfriend” in a super hero film. Unless her name is Lois Lane, or she’s got superpowers it’s not a good move.
To be fair Rusty- 90% of all film roles available for women under 40 is “boring girlfriend”
you’re right, because my decision obviously had noting to do with her past performances and film roles that I had seen her in. Seesh, how shallow can I get?

I agree. I feel bad for actresses because they have to break into the industry twice. They have to exploit their looks to get the eye candy roles and then parlay that into being recognized as a real actress. While taking roles that are antithetical to that goal.
They’re told that a good career move is to play “boring girlfriend” in transformers where they’ll be directed by a henious fraud like Mike Bay. Whose “direction” consisted of giving a bottle of body oil and telling her to bend over the hood of a camero. Who cast her for her stomach, and then goes out of his way to demean her by mentioning that fact in every single press junket.
That story by the way indites Bay much more than Fox. All she did was show up for an audition. It’s not her fault Bay’s a unprofessional lout instead of a real director.
Megan Fox could be the greatest actress alive(*) for all we know. The only evidence to the contrary is that she was terrible in the same film where Jon’s Voigt and Turturro were terrible.
So I hear ya.
* probably not

alright alright. I was criticizing the trend. Not you specifically.
I’m excited, I like Spidey and I will always like the first 2 movies… the third one… I watched it again last night……. oh boy.
Just because Spider-Man 3 wasn’t very good doesn’t mean that Spider-Man 4 will suck.
Just because Raimi has been given “full creative control” doesn’t mean that Spider-Man 4 will end up being any good.
I’m waiting until there’s more concrete information on this before I decide whether to get excited or not. Until then, I don’t really care one way or the other.
