Joe Johnston to Direct ‘Captain America’
Monday, November 10th, 2008
The director for Marvel Studios’ The First Avenger: Captain America has been hired, and his name is Joe Johnston.
Johnston has directed such films as Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Jumanji, October Sky, and the upcoming The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro. But none of those films are reasons to get excited about Johnston directing Captain America. No, there’s only one movie in his filmography that has completely sold me on his ability to direct Cap’s big screen debut, and now I can’t imagine anyone better. Keep Reading…
It was a little film called The Rocketeer.
The First Avenger: Captain America hits theaters everywhere May 6, 2011.

I love the Rocketeer, interesting choice, the wolf man looks pretty good too. Marvel have been good with directors so far, I’m sure it has something to do with the rocketeer… rocketeer is one of the most underrated films of all time.
Awesome.
Rocketeer just doesn’t get the love it deserves. That movie is incredible.
I agree with the sentiments about The Rockateer. That movie is a ton of fun to watch.
I like this pick for director. I like how Marvel isn’t picking the huge names for their movies so far. I hope Captain America turns out at least as well as the Incredible Hulk did. If it can be as good and fun to watch as Iron Man, that would be even better.
Hidalgo was pretty good.
I’m waiting for the official casting announcement to pass any pre-judgment on this… but gosh darnet Rocketeer is AWESOME and none of his other movies are bad per say but at least you know he has a flair for the time period and type of character. This is actually pretty cool. :P
Huh, looks like he was also Lucas’s special effects guy pre-prequils. And all the stuff he’s done art department for I love too. This is actually shaping up to be an interesting choice. Mayhaps we won’t see tons of cg in this…?
OMG, he did Pagemaster too?! I LOVED that movie when I was a kid!
Yes I agree what better to bring a comic book to life Than the Pagemaster…er.
