First Look: THOR

The first image of Marvel’s thunder god from the upcoming film staring Chris Hemsworth.
Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures have released the first official still from the 2011’s THOR. I’m not the biggest fan of the character, but that costume is dead on. It’s almost enough to get me excited… almost.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film follows the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
THOR is due out next year May 6, 2011.

Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.

I know next to nothing about Thor. Basically, I know the character exists and that’s about all. That said, I am excited to see how this movie turns out, and I think the costume looks great…well, at least the left shoulder does. ;)
It really is a great left shoulder… haha
For all we know, he’s just got a regular football shoulder pad on the right side.
I do actually follow Marvel comics quite closely and I have to say, this pictures is pretty sweet. He looks awesome. I love the look of the metallic sleeves as well. (or at least the left arm)
Notice, however, that he is not wearing the helmet. I’m not sure how well that would transfer to live action. Do you guys think he will have the helmet most of the movie?
Hmmm, well did anyone else stay till then end of iron man 2??
I was thinking afterwards that since Iron Man 1 & 2 are kept pretty realistic and they done really well with “the incredible hulk” at keeping it realistic. . .so what about Thor?? Isn’t it going to get kind of ’silly’ with a god and hammer and stuff being throw into the new equation of a realistic Avengers team? Or do you think they will keep a lot of it pretty tame but still try and keep the main roots of the character? :)
If you are a comics reader at all, I would highly recommend checking out “The Ultimates” by Mark Millar. It is the story of the Avengers in a very “realistic” style. It is a kick ass book with a great portrayal of Thor among the other characters.
I think he can fit in just fine, but I’m sure the Thor movie will have a different feel than The Avengers movie. His solo movie will be a lot of fantasy and mythology, but I think that will not be the overall feel of the team movie.
