D.J. Caruso on Y: The Last Man
Monday, December 29th, 2008
In a recent interview D.J. Caruso had some things to say about his forthcoming Y: The Last Man adaptation.
In an interview at comingsoon.net Caruso was asked what was up with Y: The Last Man…
“Yeah, it’s been a while. I think it’s one of those that the source material is fantastic stuff, it’s great, but it’s a tough one to lick into getting into a screenplay. I’ve tried to feel like it’s a trilogy of movies and I think everyone sort of agrees, but at the same time, just getting the first movie right and getting the right beats and knowing what to put in, it’s been really tough. You have great minds like David Goyer and you’ve got Carl Ellsworth and you’ve got Brian K. Vaughn, and I’m working with them to just kind of crack it and get it down. And we’re almost there. I know it’s a slow process, but I think eventually we’ll get it. We’re going to get it and we’ll get it right, but we had a pretty good breakthrough a couple weeks ago in the final act, and hopefully we’ll get there.”

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.

I really love that he seems to really really care that what he makes is true to the source material, and that its good, after reading this I have pretty good faith that he’s the right man for the job. He’s taking his time and taking advice, and I think that in the long run we’ll all be thankfull its not rushed and slapped together.
Yeah the last thing they need is to rush this. Seems like the correct mindsight for it being a movie though.
I’m not going to get my hopes up until I hear something more than a rumour about the casting.
