“Arrested Development” Movie: Everyone Game Except Cera?
Friday, December 26th, 2008
The film version of the brilliant Fox sitcom (there’s something you don’t get to write everyday) Arrested Development is so close to getting made I can practically taste the laughter. Mitchell Hurwtiz, the series’ show-runner and almost all the cast members have signed on and are ready to shoot. They’re only waiting on one former member of the Bluth family to sign on: Michael Cera.
Cera, now famous for his starring roles in Superbad, Juno and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, got his first break break in Hollywood playing George Michael, the timid and
kind-hearted son to Jason Bateman’s character, Michael Bluth. Now, there’s no official word on why Cera has yet to sign on to the Arrested Development movie. It could be that they’re not paying him enough (doubtful) or that it conflicts with other films he’s already committed to (Scott Pilgrim?) or it’s just be that Cera doesn’t want to keep playing the same character. (George Michael is basically Paulie Bleeker without the hipster girlfriend.) But what I can say is this; Michael, if you’re reading this ( and I know you are) YOU HAVE TO DO THIS. It’s one thing if you were in a Disney Channel sitcom and didn’t want to be in the movie, but Arrested Development was one of the funniest sitcoms ever put on television (Sorry for stating opinions as facts Randy) and you owe almost everything you have now in your career to the show. Suck it up man, put on the plaid shirt one more time. MotherBoy just wouldn’t be the same without you.

Well I never got the impression that Michael Cera was a D-bag, so I’m guessing that there’s a scheduling conflict. I can’t wait for this movie and its good to know someone at Geekshow actually likes Arrested Development!
I was worried this would happen.
I read an article during his press for Nick and Norah, and when he was asked about the movie he stated he thought the show had a good enough ending and really didn’t think it was a good idea.
which seems a cop-out considering the last line of the finale was ‘”I don’t see it working as a series–maybe a MOVIE.’ that’s a lead in for a movie if I ever saw one.
what timing for this story I’m watching season one right now
This movie has been on again off again more times the Rachel and Ross (A Friends joke? I know I’m just as surprised as you are.)
Eh, I think it WILL actually happen, whenever they think they can get Cera, or if he isn’t being a d-bag
Couldn’t they just say George Michael was at college if Cera doesn’t want to do it? It wouldn’t be as good, since I love the GM and Maebe paring, hehe, but it’s something.
i would have to say that george michael is a good singer despite the scandals ‘,
