Give Yourself an Image

See that picture over to the left? Not very attractive, is it? Did you know that you are more than likely identified by this image? That is, unless you head over to Gravatar.com, signup on their page with the email address you use on the blog, and set your own avatar up. Why is this important? Well, you may have seen that we now have a new iPhone theme on the site. It uses the Gravatar service to determine your personal avatar. What’s that you say? You don’t have an iPhone, and you don’t care? No excuse! You see, the main theme will be updated “sometime soon” to add in Gravatar support. When that happens, you don’t want to be left with those white circles in a grey block as your personality reflection, now do you? So, take the 5 minutes to go register at Gravatar.com, setup an avatar, and be ready for it to be displayed on the site. Remember to use the email address you are using on this website, if you want it to work right.

Well since you asked so nicely, I went on there and added a nice little avatar for my email address. I hope this “sometime soon” happens…..soon. ;)

Done… and done. Though I do not posess an IPhone nor will I anytime… ever. But, oh well. :P
Man, they won’t accept the dancing ninja turtle for my avatar. Thus ends an era. Sad.
I think it’s because it’s animated. Probably wouldn’t be too hard to get a still version of that avatar….

Everyone’s is showing up nicely…except for bob’s and Sunshineyness’. Did you guys make sure that you used your same email address when you registered?
You could set it to fall back on one of the auto-generated avatars instead of the default gravatar image, if the user doesn’t have a gravatar account.
It’s a pretty simple one-word change … you just need to add a third parameter to get_avatar(), setting it to ‘identicon’, ‘wavatar’, or ‘monsterid’. I use wavatars on mine.
Here’s my johnny-come-lately test, to see if my awesome gravatar is workin’.
