Geek By Night and Fandomonium News
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009Hey Geeks. Scott here with an update on the future of Geek By Night and Fandomonium.
… or I guess I should say lack there of.
Something has happened recently in my personal life that has unfortunately made it impossible for me to continue with either show. Obviously I’m not willing to go into it fully here, not wanting to air any dirty laundry in such a public setting. Just know, and please understand, that I would NEVER have come to this decision lightly.
So its with a heavy heart that I must announce the cancelations of both Geek By Night as well as Fandomonium.
I know that for a lot of you, the sudden ending of Geek By Night comes as a bit of a surprise considering that I’ve been promising for almost a year now that it would return to finish out its first season at some point. Myself and the rest of the GbN team had all been working diligently on the rest of the season until very recently when all of this personal stuff turned my life upside down. After giving it a lot of thought, I just knew that there was no way to continue the show. And for that I am very truly sorry.
While I thanked them all in private, I also wanted to reiterate to my cast and crew how amazing you all were to give this little show the talent that made it the success that it was. I’m still flabbergasted that I was blessed enough to work with such wonderful, dedicated people on my first real creative endeavor. I’ll be forever grateful. I can only dream to work with all of you again. Geek by Night would have been nothing without all of you.
And of course, I could never ever EVER thank all of you enough. I never could have dreamed to have had such a loving and supportive fanbase as the one that I got from Geek by Night. It was because of all of you that I absolutely hated doing this, but as I said before, I had no other choice.
But I want you all to understand that while this may be the end of Geek by Night: the audio drama, I am determined to continue the adventures of Elliot, Gwen, Gibson, Simon, and Mindy in some way. Some how. And I will, I promise. These characters are too large a part of my life now, and I love them all too much to end their story before it even began.
Until then, I have other projects in the works that will be announced in the near-ish future. I hope you all tune in.
Thank you all so much
Scott

Well, that’s really sad news to hear.
While im sad to hear about the end of both shows (geek by night in particular will leave a big hole in my heart to see go), I feel like with everything you have given to us over the last few years that we should just say “thanks for all the fish” and hope that at some point you get back to them.
I hope everything gets better in your life, whatever it may be.
I just wanted to give you props for using a Hitchhiker’s Guide reference.
Thanks, I was inspired.
Aw, Geek by Night has been one of my favorite things since i listened to it the first time.
I Hope your life gets better!
I think it’s amazing what you guys were able to do with Geek By Night. It was a fun show to listen to, and it is sad to see it go. Fandomonium was also good for its short run. It’s too bad it died before it really got a chance to take off.
I hope your personal life returns to its rightside up state soon if it hasn’t already. I’m looking forward to hearing about these other projects you have in the works. If any of them are half as good as Geek By Night, then we are all in for a treat.
I feel like there is a hole in my life now. But I hope everything turns out ok for you.
I am really going to miss geek by night, hope everything gets better for you Scott.
I am saddened to see both shows go. But also glad that there is closure so I don’t have refresh my ITunes constantly looking and hoping for a new ep. I join with everyone hoping your personal life turns itself back the right direction.
Well thats to bad to hear Scott, but it would be selfish to say that it’s harder on us than it is on you. I’d just like to say that it’s amazing how many people this silly little show that nobodies hear of affected is such a great way.
It’s too sad to see my favourite show gone, but I understand that you yourself wouldn’t let go of this project lightheartedly. All I can do now is wish you all the best and hope you’ll find the time to provide us fans with some kind of closure somewhere in the not too far future. I really need to know how it all ends and hope dies last, so I’ll just stick around and wait for the finale in any format you see fit. I really hope your life will get better soon, again all the best

So I was listening to Geek by Night again last night, and something dawned on me. That show is too amazing, and means to much to just let it die. I feel too much for the characters, and I really think the show has a tonnes of potential.
That is why
Scott. I can’t even begin to imagine what it is that made you stop making the show, but I am sure that it was terrible. Nonetheless, I would like to offer my help in a very small way. If you think there is any potential to continue the show, I would be willing to help out.
I understand that it would be hard for a new person to come in and take over. That’s not what I want to do. You yourself said you wanted the show to continue, and that’s why I think it should.
If anyone else is willing to chip in, I think that we should work together and make GbN the next Firefly.

Yeah dude, but who would want to see a firefly that Joss wasnt incharge of?
Thats pretty much my feelings here, like Scott said, im sure we’ll see the Gbn crew again some day, somehow.
Untill then, let sleeping dogs lay.
I’m not saying that it would be Firefly by any means. Just similar.
I’m also not saying that I’m Joss either. But I think that I we all worked together we could give GbN the ending it deserves.
It all rests on Scott in the end, and if he wants to say no he has that right. I just think it would be a shame to have it hang like this.
The show simply can’t continue in this format. Period. While it warms my heart that you want it to continue, I’m sorry but it can’t. Geek By Night: the audio drama, is dead.
That being said, I’m not saying goodbye forever, just for now. The story will go on, its just not going to be in the immediate future and it’s not going to be in this format. I’ve actually been writing the end of the season, trying to finish the story so that I can figure out how I want to try to present it to the world.
A couple of options:
1) I could release the scripts as is, post them on the site for people to read…
2) I could adapt the end of the season into a prose format and release it on the site that way…
3) I could adapt the end of the season into a prose format and then release it as a podiobook series.
I’ve wrestled with what exactly I want to do to get this story out to the masses as quickly as possible. My dream would be either a video web series of sorts, or in a perfect world, a comic book. But I don’t see either of those options panning out, unfortunately.
I totally understand Scott.
It’s not so much that I personally want to continue and be invovled, as much as I really want to know the rest of the story.
Good to hear that you haven’t given up, an are still writing. Whatever you do with the characters is going to be great.
Also I have really enjoyed what you’ve been doing with GeekIN and TDC. Keep it up!
Scott I think the you should do the podiobook at podiobooks.com I think this way its in audio format and still would give your fans the full season as book 1 and etc… you or who ever would do the voice reading I am sure will do a excellent job. These characters are great, and I have waited this long I can wait alittle longer. GOOD LUCK! KEEP WRITING!
WOW! I’ve been waiting for so long for another episode to pop up in my iTunes of either Fandomonium or Geek By Night. My girlfriend just asked me about Geek By Night the other day, because I got her into it while we were on some long road trips quite some time ago. She has been hoping for a new episode as long as I have, so I finally decided to come check to see if I could dig up any info on the newest episodes.
I figured if the podcast had come to an end a final “Announcement Episode” would’ve been released on iTunes announcing to the fans that the podcast in its current form would no longer be produced. That way all those people who don’t visit the site regularly would know and not be kept wondering.
I’m so sad to see the shows end. I began listening to the 2 Geeks podcast when my friends over at Black20 recommended it. And now there’s no more Black 20 and Net_Work (I’m sure you guys are sad about that too). There’s no more 2 Geeks. There’s no more Fandomonium. And There’s no more Geek By Night. So much of my favorite internet content has just withered away into nothingness. Other avenues of entertainment online just haven’t been up to snuff.
I bid these podcasts a fond farewell, and will miss them. I hope to hear the rest of GBN in podiobook format eventually. It would be great to share that with my girlfriend who also greatly enjoyed the series.
I’d vote for possibility number 1. Reading the scripts would be the next best thing to listening to the audiodrama for me. Just saying though… I am happy with whichever closure you’d be willing to give us. Hugs, Philine
