A Small Change in Plans
Wednesday, July 9th, 2008
I’m not too sure how I over-looked this. However, I somehow got it in my head that E3 was taking place this coming weekend. As a result, the next call-in show was scheduled for this coming Monday in order to take advantage of that. However, as it turns out, E3 has a bizarre schedule this year, with the festivities beginning on Monday, and lasting through Thursday.
A majority of the week’s events will happen on Monday and Tuesday, as the biggest surprises of the convention generally happen amongst the formal stage presentations (And even then, the majority of the news will likely come from the console makers’ shows).
As such, in order to allow for a majority of the news from the show to take place before we record (You know, so we can actually discuss it), we are going to have to hold off on the E3 Discussion episode. We apoligize to anyone that would’ve been available on the original day, but will now miss the show. However, it’s just about the only way of doing it properly.
The E3 Discussion episode of GeekiNput will take place on Wednesday, July 16th at 8pm EST/5pm PST. The remaining GeekiNput shows will not be effected by this change of schedule, and will continue to record on Mondays.
We hope everyone understands and can still make it.

I was wondering what we would talk about on Monday since most of E3 wouldn’t have happened yet. Wednesday shouldn’t be a problem for me. I’m looking forward to it. :)
Technically we could have still discussed Microsoft, since their show is on Monday. but I’m rather interested in hearing what Sony and Nintendo has in store for this year. Year of the price drops? The year of “Home”? What titles will we see from Nintendo after a majority of their franchises have already been done this gen? A traditional Donkey Kong Country, maybe?
I think that Nintendo’s conference has the most potential for surprises. At this point, we haven’t really heard much of anything about Nintendo in regards to E3. There have been several leaks/rumors about Microsoft and Sony, but Nintendo’s been pretty quiet thus far.
I think that Microsoft will talk a lot about Gears 2 and Rock Band 2 (maybe a price drop as well). Sony will probably talk about Resistance 2 and probably something about Home. I think Nintendo will talk about Animal Crossing, maybe Pikmin (I hope so), and most likely a new peripheral. I also think that either Sony or Microsoft might reveal a remote-style controller for their console.
On a side note, I just watched IGN’s new video for The Conduit, and I think it looks pretty damn nice for a Wii game. I’m looking forward to hearing more about it from E3. I’m also looking forward to hearing more about Mad World. I doubt Nintendo will include it in their conference due to the graphic violence, but I bet it will be on the show floor somewhere.
I don’t know. The buzz going around is that we are going to hear the least out of Nintendo. Supposedly they have a “big title” which is going to be Animal Crossing Wii, and a new peripheral. But other than that, most people aren’t expecting much from them. Meanwhile, rumor has Microsoft with a motion control device, a price cut/new 60 gig model, a new singing game code-named Lips, Gears 2, Fable 2, Bajoo Kazooie, and a slightly timed-exclusive in Rock Band 2. Sony has Home, FFXIII (Which is rumored to either not be present, or be a surprise appearance), Resistance 2, Kill Zone 2, Little Big World, a possible price cut, etc.
People were pretty upset about Nintendo’s presentation last year (Nothing against Mario Kart and Wii Fit, but when you build your entire show around them…) and are expecting a similar showing this year. Doesn’t really surprise me. All three companies have a tendency to loosen their grip when they have the industry by the throat.
Still, it won’t surprise me if very little not currently know gets shown at E3. Still, I always hold out hope.
Surprisingly, the title I’m looking forward to seeing more about is Banjo Kazooie. I never played either of the other two, but the vehicle aspect in this one looks crazy fun.
I was just saying that Nintendo has the most “potential” for surprises, not that we’d actually get them. I’m actually expecting to see a similar conference to last years: lots of self congratulating, a tiny bit of footage on stuff we already know about, a date or two, a new peripheral, and some more self congratulating.
I guess we’ll find out in a few days what the big three have in store. However, I think some of the more exciting stuff will come out of the individual company conferences/presentations. EA and Square Enix have presentations on Monday. Ubisoft and Activision are on Tuesday, and Konami is on Wednesday.
I don’t know. I still think that Microsoft and Sony have the most likely chance for pulling out something big. Most of the smaller companies aren’t putting in as much effort these days into the dying E3 event. But Microsoft and Sony still seem to take it partly serious, and they need to make some big steps. I can’t imagine anything huge coming out, but I think some of the bigger things will come out of those two.
Here is an article on how Sony apparently has too much to reveal this year, including a new Twisted Metal, and God of War 3: http://kotaku.com/5023856/will-sony-inflict-massive-damage-at-e3-08
I don’t doubt that we’ll have some big news from everybody. I’m sure that each company is holding something back for E3. It’s just that we’ve heard quite a bit of stuff about Sony & Microsoft recently, and not so much about Nintendo.
Regardless about whoever has the biggest surprise, I always enjoy watching the conferences and reading about all the other stuff from E3 every year. Next week is going to be fun. :D
That Sony article is very interesting. I’m sure that whatever Sony does in their conference, it won’t be like the travesty of 2006.
Do you visit GameTrailers.com often? They have the Bonus Round show on that site, and the last couple weeks, they’ve been discussing E3. They’ve had an episode about each of the big three, and the next one is going to focus on third party offerings. The Bonus Round is an interesting show in general (the MGS4 ones with David Hayter were especially cool), but I’ve really enjoyed their E3 speculations.
I love Gametrailers, but I don’t find it the easiest site to “keep up with”. I also often forget about Gametrailers.TV
I think there are going to be a lot of great 3rd party games this year. However, I’d be surprised if there are going to be a lot of surprises in that category.
Yeah, GameTrailers is hard to keep up with sometimes, but that just means they have a ton of videos! :D
I think GameTrailers is my favorite gaming website. I still go to places like IGN, 1Up, Kotaku, Joystiq, and Destructoid, but I enjoy the overall package that GameTrailers puts out there. They have quite a bit of great content that is organized pretty well.
I usually browse through their little scrolling thing on the main page to see if there’s anything related to games I’m interested in. Then I just pay attention to when their editorial-type videos are posted. I almost always watch the Bonus Round because it usually has some fun discussion with industry people. I will watch the GtTV shows (online, not on Spike) if they are talking about games I want to know about. I really enjoy their video reviews, as they do a very good job of breaking down why a game is good or not without spoiling too much with the video.
I also really like the different retrospective series they have done. The ones on Zelda and Metroid are very good, and the Metal Gear one is good if you like those games. They are currently on a retrospective of Star Wars video games. They also have “Top Ten” Videos every once in a while that are fun to watch. Some of my favorites Top Ten videos are “Years in Gaming”, “Worst Consoles”, “Ninjas”, and “Best Weapons”.
They are definitely one of my favorite review sites. But for news, I like to get things from different sites. Mostly IGN, Kotaku, and Joystiq. But Gametrailers has some of the best video reviews in existence, IMHO.
Yeah, I don’t really go to GameTrailers for news, but nobody is even close when it comes to quality (and quantity) of video content for games.
