Things are moving forward for Marvel Entertainment’s Spider-Man musical…
In an interview with IESB Evan Rachel Wood confirms that she has been cast as Mary Jane Watson in the forthcoming Spider-Man musical. Wood also confirms that rehearsals are set to start in June of 2009, for an opening in mid 2010.
Now the only question is who is going to play Peter Parker. It has long been rumored that Jim Sturgess, Wood’s Across the Universe co-star, is up for the role. In the interview Wood says that they are trying to convince him.
Already announced is that the music and lyrics are being written by Julie Taymor with Bono and the Edge of U2.

…….I’ve seen (and stage handed) It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! It’s Superman: The Musical… I know how this ends…
lol
I wish Evan Rachel was Mary Jane in the movies. :(
They do love their blond Mary Janes, don’t they? Evan Rachel Wood would be a better choice than Kirsten, obviously.
So when can we expect a movie based on this musical? Anyone?….
I have a casting suggestion fo legendary proportions:
Peter Parker as played by… wait for it… NEIL PATRICK HARRIS!
@Chris – Well… it’s not like he hasn’t played it before.
She was so pretty before she dated Marilyn Mansin and became a Dita Von Teese wannabe. She has a great voice though so I’m sure she’ll be great.
It’s a real shame that CGI animated Spidey never stuck around- it took a second to find its footing, but once it did that show had some truly awesome action and actually pretty decent stories.
