TV GeeKritique – Introductions
Saturday, December 20th, 2008Introducing Geekshow’s new television critic, writer Tim Costello.
TV GeeKritique
Small Screen Geeky Goodness
Greetings, one and all!
My name is Tim Costello (or “SuperTim” as I’m know around here), and I’m very excited to be joining the Geekshow family, as your friendly neighborhood television critic.
Now, I don’t pretend to be affiliated with any hotshot executives or TV big-wigs (but, that wouldn’t be half-bad), I am just a fan of stellar television, not much unlike most of you reading this. To give you an idea of what you’ll be in for here, let me tell you a little bit about myself:
I am, by nature, a positive guy. In my opinion, there is enough negativity out in the world. When I watch an episode of a TV series or movie, I like to focus on what I liked rather than what I didn’t. But, of course, that doesn’t mean I’m blind to a show’s faults, either. As much as I’m a positive person, I’ll still call it like I see it. But my goal is to create a positive environment with my reviews and articles. Because, let’s face it, the things we like about our favorite shows must outnumber the bad, or we wouldn’t come back week after week.
My favorite television series are the kinds that are able to give us awesome stories with equally awesome characters intermixed. For example, I think that Lost and Supernatural are two examples of the topnotch writing that can be delivered on a weekly basis, while still contributing to the overall story of the season and even the series. But, obviously this IS Geekshow, so there is a geeky side to the things I watch. My all-time favorite geek-related TV series are Smallville and Star Trek: the Next Generation. That being said, I am a recent convert of the all things Whedon, even though, I KNOW I’m definitely in the minority in thinking that Angel is a vastly superior show to Buffy. But hey, think what you will.
I’m glad to be here amongst some of my favorite fellow geeks. Geekshow has gotten me into several TV series that I am now a big fan of. I gave How I Met Your Mother and the Whedonverse series a go because of the Geekshow podcasts. I even listened to the season 1 episode of the Buffcast before I had ever seen a single episode. I’m looking forward to, hopefully, do the same for some of you.

Welcome to Geekshow Tim!
Welcome and just know you aren’t alone in your opinion of BtVS v. Angel.
I never saw the complete Angel series(seasons 1,2, and 5 after Buffy ended) and while I loved Buffy more I can say that season 5 of Angel is better than season 7 of Buffy
@SNW – If you only saw season 1, 2 and 5 of Angel then you missed out on arguably the best season. Season 3 of Angel, for me, is one of the strongest 22 episodes of any television series I’ve ever seen. I love that season.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes, guys.
I don’t know what it is about Angel but I just love it.
@TheDoctor
Really, season 3? Besides season 1, that’s probably my least favorite season. But then again, I’m one of those freaks who loves season 4, so what do I know :)
Welcome to Geekshow Tim.
Welcome
@ The Watcher – Yeah… I hate most of season 4 with a fiery passion. I love everything about Season 3. I thought that Holtz was one of the best villains in the whedonverse. I loved him. I also loved Wes’ story that season. Loved it.
I aprpcaeite you taking to time to contribute That’s very helpful.

Hmmm…for some reason, I think you might find more people here that share you opinion of Angel. As much as I love both shows, I also think Angel was much better.
Welcome aboard, SuperTim! :D
Well i’ve stated as such before. And you would’ve Thot I said the sky was purple.
But I’m glad everyone agrees.
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly, everybody.
The sky isn’t purple? ;)
I’m on Buffy season 2. When does Angel start in terms of chronology?
Welcome welcome.
Angel Season One begins with Buffy Season 4
Looking forward to hearing more from a fellow Supernatural fan! Welcome!
Looking foward to reading about your thoughts Tim, welcome.
WonderJenn, if you want to hear my thoughts on Supernatural, check out my podcast, the Crossroads. Scott himself even guested on the 40th episode.
Check it out!
Again, I can’t even begin to say how grateful I am for all your warm welcomes.
Thank you!
Welcome Tim. Can’t wait to hear all your thoughts on the tube!
@People Who Commented about Angel:
I think its important to remember that Angel wouldn’t be what it is without having first had Buffy behind it to set up the whole universe and provide the backstory. Buffy was really a stepping stone for it. Angel could go where Buffy couldn’t but still be a part of the same universe. I think the richness of the two shows living in tandem is what made Angel really stand out on its own as a more daring and dynamic show.
I totally agree with SNW that Season 5 Angel was a better watch than Season 7 Buffy. Buffy was too angsty and pissy and tense whereas Angel was more in control of its turbulence (if that’s even possible) and you could just invest your heart in the storyline and the characters.
Hello and welcomen. :P
@AussieSlayerette: That pretty much goes without saying. Nobody is dissing Buffy, but I’ve said several times.. I feel the highs of Angel are as high as Buffy’s. The low’s are probably about as low. But it’s better on average than Buffy is. It’s the medium range where it really sets itself apart, IMO.
Anyway, Tim, looking forward to seeing your articles. I thought the intro was funny, because it almost sounded like you were dismissing Lost and Supernatural as not being geeky. I think you’ll find a lot of fans of both around here. So never pass up on the chance to give us some of that…
Well , Randy, I’ll def cover LOST but like I said with Supernatural, I have a podcast for that. :)
I have a podcast for Buffy and Angel, but I don’t think that will keep people from wanting written representation too. :)
Tru dat.
Hi Tim. I also prefer Angel to Buffy (that goes for both the series and the characters!) so I’m looking forward to reading your articles. Season 3 of Angel is a-maz-ing. Not only is Holtz a brilliant villian (take note ‘Heroes’) but I cry my eyes out whenever I watch the Wes arc. I love that show. Why did it have to end? (sob)
Like to watch Stargate Atlantis episodes and also Lost. I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
