Five new(ish) trailers make up this week’s TrailerGEEK!
Predators – Teaser Trailer
From Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal comes a bold new chapter in the Predator universe, Predators. The film stars Adrien Brody as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers – mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members – human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.
Megamind – Teaser Trailer
Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as ‘Metro Man,’ an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life’s ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called ‘Titan,’ who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it’s much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn’t just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world’s smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?
The Switch – Theatrical Trailer
Jennifer Aniston stars alongside Jason Bateman in this offbeat comedy as Kassie, a smart, fun-loving single woman who, despite her neurotic best friend Wally’s (Bateman) objections, decides it’s time to have a baby, even if it means doing it by herself… with a little help from a charming sperm donor (Patrick Wilson). But, unbeknownst to her, Kassie’s plans go awry because of a last-minute switch that isn’t discovered until seven years later when Wally finally gets acquainted with Kassie’s cute–though slightly neurotic–son.
Get Him to the Greek – Trailer
Aaron Green (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.’s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour. His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril. British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. But that doesn’t mean he can’t have a few orgies while he finds it. When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her back… right before kick-starting his world domination. As the countdown to the concert begins, one intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver his charge safe and, sort of, sound. He may have to coax, lie to, enable and party with Aldous, but Aaron will get him to the Greek.
Shrek Forever After – Theatrical Trailer
After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws’ kingdom, what’s an ogre to do? Well, if you’re Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What’s happened to this ogre’s roar? Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

My thoughts…
Predators – Is it just me or is this trailer edited together just like one of those Platinum Dunes horror remake movie trailers? I got that vibe big time, but for me, that’s not really a bad thing. The cast is kind of fantastic and it looks like a real Predator movie… I’m sold. Not the biggest Predator guy, but this looks like fun.
Megamind – Robert Downey Jr as a supervillain, Brad Pitt as a cheesy superhero arch enemy, and Tina Fey as the damsel in distress? Sounds awesome, no? Well it would have been but that is unfortunately the animated called “Oobermind” which was changed to its current title when RDJ left the film and was replaced by Will Ferrell. So I doubt this version will be quite as good as it could have been, but I don’t mind Will Ferrell and I love Superhero/villain stories. I’ll be there, 3D glasses in hand.
The Switch – I think this looks interesting. Definitely a quirky, offbeat romantic comedy with a decent cast and an original high concept. The downfall of this will probably be the climax however, because realistically there is no redeeming yourself for that… so that’ll be a sad ending. Or alternatively, they have her unrealistically forgive him, and that will cheapen the ending. Either way… they’ll be walking on thin ice. Still want to see if they can pull it off though.
Get Him to the Greek – This looks good.Jonah Hill doesn’t seem to be playing his usual “fat and angry” character, so I think this could be a lot of fun. I like road trip movies, and that’s basically what this is… I’m hoping for the best. (I know this is the older trailer, but I make it a personal rule not to watch red band trailers if I can help it, because all the best jokes tend to be in them. Plus the less trailers you watch for comedies, the less jokes you’ll have ruined for you.)
Shrek Forever After – I still think this will be the last Shrek-centric film. A lot of people roll their eyes, but none of the other movies were touted as “The Final Chapter”. This is definitely the last Shrek movie, and I think it looks like a fun full circle “Its a Wonderful Life” type of story. A great way to cap off this series of films. Plus, Rumpelstiltskin as the villain is kind of inspired…
Predators – I think this looks like it could be a lot of fun. It could also end up sucking, but at least it appears to have more potential than the AvP movies ever did. I’ve always been a bigger fan of the Alien series of movies, but I enjoy the Predator as a creature as well. It’s a different flavor of badass, creepy alien. :)
Megamind – Hmmmm….this teaser trailer is kind of dumb, but the premise might have some legs to it.
Get Him to the Greek – I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and I am still looking forward to this movie despite the extreme lack of Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell.
Shrek Forever After – Please oh please let this be the last Shrek movie ever made!! The first movie was fun, and the second was enjoyable, but they haven’t aged very well. The third movie was atrocious. This trailer looks like they have managed to keep the steady decline in quality going.
Dreamworks is good at doing technically good animation, but their movies usually lacks any sort of soul. Somehow Pixar has managed to always imbue their characters and stories with life, but this quality has managed to escape Dreamworks in their everlasting quest for bigger celebrity voices. Every once in a while, they have captured a little bit of imagination (Kung Fu Panda is probably their best animated movie, IMHO), but the Shrek series has already gone one way too long. I’d rather see Dreamworks attempt new things (ie. How to Train Your Dragon looks good) than to retread the same tired ground all the time. I really hope the rumored Puss in Boots movie never comes to fruition.
I gotta say, The Switch has me interested, but I love Jason Bateman so I guess that’s why.
Predators: Wow, that looks better than a third Predator movie has a right to be and infinitely better than those dreg AVP movies.
