Trailer: The Last Airbender
Monday, June 22nd, 2009
The teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender.
Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.
The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The film’s hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is the “Last Airbender” — the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together.
Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Dev Patel plays the Fire Nation’s evil prince Zuko. Exiled from the Fire Nation by his father, Zuko is sent to capture the Avatar in order to restore his honor and right to the throne.
The Last Airbender is being targeted for a July 2nd 2010 release.

Looks good. The ships and Aang look pretty accurate to how they looked in the cartoon. I’m looking forward to this movie now.
yeah i never watched the show..but it still looks pretty good
looks pretty cool
I’ve seen the entire cartoon series, and I loved every second of it. I still have many doubts about how well it can translate into live-action, but I will admit that the look of this teaser is very nice. Hopefully the movie will be able to capture the over-the-top vibe of the action in the cartoon without looking completely stupid.
Does anyone know what the focus of the movie is supposed to be? Are they doing the entire series as a movie? Just the first book?
On an entirely pointless note, I hope that Sokka smacks himself in the forehead at least once during the movie.
It’s going to be book one. Paramount is hoping for a trilogy.
the ONLY complaint I have with this is that Aang looks like he’s 5 years old….. of course theres not really much to go on and its probly just the angle. I have to say that everything is looks awesome and this is the first M night movie im actually looking foward to seeing other than unbreakable.
LOVE Avatar and I’m actually a Shyamalan applogist. The only film of his I’ve actually disliked is The Happening. Looking forward to this
I hope this is done well; I love the series and the trailor looks amazing. My only complaint so far is that Zuko’s sister Azula, Mai and Ty Lee dont appear to be in it. I hope Im wrong they were a pretty important part of the show.
They didn’t come into the show until Book Two, so they have no reason to be in this movie.
Seeing the arrow on his head at the end made me giggle like a schoolgirl. I’m very excited now. M. Night is a really good visual director and he has good material to work with this time (i.e. he’s not writing an original story).
Very cool trailer.
And I’ll thank Scott and J-Bey for suggesting this show. I own all the DVD sets and love it.
……. not getting my hopes up TOO much, but * insert massive fan girl squeal here*
i loved the series n i REALLY hope this is just as awesome…
I’m saving the squealing for when I see live-action Appa.
