It was a great episode and I agree with alot of what you had to say. I dont think I loved it quirte as much as you both did, but it was a solid episode.
The person Amy’s aunt says she doesnt trust is Richard Dawkins. He is a real person, I mostly know him for his book “The god dilusion”.
I think the line was more to set that in that reality things like stars are held to like religions or myth.
Sorry, im updating and forgetting hand all out of it atm, im really busy but inspired to comment. I think my favourate part of the episode was him writting “GERONIMO” to them as he is flying into the exploding tardis…I seen it comming a mile away, but I really liked the way it felt.
GERONIMO is even used in the books so I think it will be a Matt Smith thing . I just hope they don’t over use it .
I love, love, love, love, LOVED this episode. There were so many great little touches and details that made it special. I loved the fez. I loved the Bill & Ted style time travel shenanigans. I loved the development of “the boy who waited”. I loved the uses of “gotcha” and “geronimo”. I loved the old, new, borrowed, blue reveal at the end. I loved the Doctor dancing with a bunch of kids. And I love the fact that the Doctor will now have a married couple as companions.
This was a great finale, and it is tied with The Eleventh Hour as my favorite episode of the season. This series may have had a few ups and downs in the middle, but the beginning and end were both phenomenal.
To add more to the Richard Dawkins thing – his wife is Lalla Ward who played Romana in more Classic doctor who and Richard Dawkins has appeared on episodes previously.
Also as the person who coined the term Meme (The scientific concept not the internet term.) I think it is another great reason for him to be name dropped in this episode.
AM I the only one here who thinks Amy is River .
I can give u guys a few clues .
1. She give Amy the dairy she has in Forest of the Dead but it blank.
2. She tell the doctor in a joking way that she married right after we just saw Amy get Married
3. She seem to know her even tho they never met in her timeline.
4. There names are alike
5. The way she said he dont know me as well as you but he will.
6. the fact amy coming about means she will be someone the doctor trust
and there other things to but I can think of them right now.
I hope if i’m right we will find out in season 6
So what do u guys think ?
The only thing I can think of right now is that the doctor has seen what amy looks like in 10 years when she came to visit herself. If it was the same person by then she surely would look close enough to river, unless of course she changes her appearence somehow.
I hope not purely on the fact I wouldnt want Amy to share in Rivers eventual fate.
On the 10 years thing he said I know it and didnt want Amy to see herself so maybe he meant I know Amy is River .
Now that I think about it i’m with you I dont want her to have the same fate .
PS I wish river was in the books but she not
Guys,
Great season of commentary on a very good season – probably the best of the revived series.
I loved the final episode, and although not all questions were answered there was enough to be going on with. Who exactly does River kill?
One minor gripe with the Pandorica Opens – the Autons have the Doctor firmly in their power, there are Daleks and Sontarons everywhere – why did they not take the opportunity to simply shoot him there and then? The Pandorica seemed like an incredibly elaborate trap. But there you go. Still loved it. And the Cybermen were scary at last. That skull creeped me out.
I hope you guys keep the doctor who podcast going during the break I know it going to get hard to come up with new topics but I’m sure you guys can find things to talk about .
here a few topic ideas .
1. talk about each doctor
2. making top 5 things you love about Doctor who
3. your fav Companion
my fav Matt smith ep. is Amy choice
( I like that it diffent then any thing on Doctor who we ever seen)
my fan Moffat ep is the big bang
( sure there alot of holes in the plot but it was a very fan ride , and it had the best opening for any doctor who.)
as for lest that The Lodger , But it dont dislike it just wasnt great like the other 12 eps . and i was disapoint that it wasnt much of a lead in beside the last min with the crack.
as for the crack ……. BEST SEASON THEME EVER cant wait to see what season 2 theme will be , I hope it not just the silence thing
