Also on a side note, for some reason, disks like the dark knight and afew other movies have long loading times before the menu on my dad’s player, but they only last around 2 seconds for me.

I got the launch model, paid $700 for it too….was a punch to the gut but its better than any blu-ray player any of my friends or family have bought in the years since (the ability to watch most formats straight of a flash drive was handy). It has fairly good backwards compat, but not everything. A good example is how my copies of final fantasy 7 and 9 work on it, but 8 doesnt (except for some strainge reason disk 3). Most ps2 games iv tried work.

Soooo…..you can play PS1 games but not PS2? That seems a little silly to me, but whatever. It doesn’t bug me all that much. Backwards compatibility is nice, but I don’t have any PS2 games lying around, and there’s only a small amount of games I’d actually want to go back and play anyway.

The thing that bugs me is that they are still only packing in composite cables instead of HDMI or component cables, so if you want to take advantage of your HDTV, you need to shell out more for proper cables. Also, the Slim model isn’t packing in a LAN cable? That’s probably one of the cheapest things to include in the box. Why cut it?

One model did have it. The launch model. Then they removed the chip to cut production costs.However, they had at least one model (Perhaps all of them, I don’t know for sure) that had the software based emulation that Polygon mentioned. I’m not sure if that model is still available, or if the Slim model will have it.

But like Polygon said, there isn’t a model on the market with full compatability.

I may not be correct on this, but I don’t think any of the PS3 models currently offered in stores that have complete backwards compatibility. They are all software based, so some titles work, but others don’t. This new one will be the same. I think the only PS3 model that had hardware based compatibility is the original SKU that is no longer on shelves, although you might find it on ebay if you’re lucky.

I never found out if the PS3 had backwards compatibility. I heard “no” then “yes” then I figured they’d just re-sell the games like microsoftis doing (which isn’t as bad a problem with a 120 gig hardrive in my opinion)

There are some bundles and 160 gig hdd units out there, but I doubt they drop to $299 as well. Still, there is a model out there that has partial back compat, isn’t there? I don’t think this one will have it at all.

Yeah, all the “fat” PS3s on store shelves right now are dropping in price, but why would you want an older model unless it was cheaper? I’d much rather wait a couple weeks for the slim ones.

Now I’m off to see if $300 magically appeared in my couch cushions…

I’m going to sell my Blu-Ray player to make up a bit of the difference. Won’t need one with the Slim playing Blu-Rays as well.

I’m sold….but I won’t be getting one yet. It’s not really worth it until I can get an HDTV. Perhaps I’ll get lucky and find a good deal in the next few weeks or something. Several stores seem to put TVs on sale to coincide with the start of the NFL season.

Then again, I don’t really have a ton of cash lying around at the moment either, so I’ll probably have to wait a lot longer before I can afford one, even at the lower price.

So bottom line, I want a PS3, but I don’t really have the money for one. :(

$300 with a 120 gig HDD? I need to see the rest of the specs (did they keep the wireless?), but otherwise, Sold.

PixelJunk Monsters, Fat Princess, Little Big Planet, etc….Here I come. And to think, only $50 more than the PSP Go. That thing is so going to flop.
