yeah but that doesn't mean the editing isn't similar in his films. Mick Bay hasn't been using the same editor throughout his career but the editing "style" remains consistent.
Either way, hopefully PJ's other films arent like that.

Jackson has used several different editors for his different movies. Jamie Selkirk shows up the most often, however the editor for The Lovely Bones is Jabez Olssen.

No no. You should be able to tell the difference between Meet The Feebles / Dead Alive and Troll 2.
Jackson's films are creative, well made fun schlock.

I dont get the big deal with jackson, to me he's a guy that made a couple of "so bad they are good" horror movies, one really good 9 hour movie that he had to split into 3 and a far too long remake of a movie i didnt think was so great to begin with. I think he's a good director, but not brilliant.... and he DEFFINATLY needs a editor.

I find men in drag to be getting EXTREAMLY old in the funny department. I get it, he's wearing a dress...but in a culture where thats not SUCH an uncommon thing to see, it kinda loses points for me.

King Kong is like Funny People; its a fantastic filmmaker directing a movie that would be his favorite movie of all time. They're both self-indulgent, they both seem to be made 100% out of pure love and passion and critcs hate that I think. Me, I dig it. And I loved that bug scene, becuase its Jackson being a 12-year-old boy; remember those home movies or stories you would make for your friends and how they would be almost catoonishly violent?

I like this trailer. It's a bit long for my taste, but it does make me interested in the movie. The cinematography and art decoration are simply gorgeous. Some of these visuals are quite stunning and in fact mirror some things I've had kicking around in my head for a few years, but never had the knowledge or means to make them a reality. If there's anyone who could pull it off though, it's Peter Jackson. Most of the time, when I see something I've thought of, or occasionally sketched out on what I call my "Idea Wall", I get bummed out and a little offended. It's as if someone went into my head and stole my dreams. I'm all, "Hey, that's my idea/shot! He can't do that! I was gonna do that, just as soon as I win the lottery that I don't play! Get out of my head!" It's absurd and stupid, I know but there it is. :)

I like Peter Jackson, even if I don't always love his movies. I'm actually a big fan of The Frighteners, despite (or maybe even because of) its few flaws in the script and stumbles in pacing/tone. I remember most critics dismissing it as not much more than an overblown demo reel for special effects. Roger Ebert specifically sums up the movie and his thoughts by observing, "It is better, I think, to sit through a movie where nothing happens than one in which everything happens. Last year, I reviewed a nine-hour documentary about the lives of Mongolian yak herdsmen, and I would rather see it again than sit through The Frighteners.''

I personally find the movie to be fun, imaginative and distinctive of a clear, creative voice, similar to the inventive, popcorn adventures Robert Zemeckis used to do so well (he produced the film). I feel the claims that the movie is just one FX set-piece after another just to showcase that it can be done at all, is to miss the point entirely. I mean, by that rationale, I suppose you could argue that Terminator 2 is not a good film, but I digress.

Peter Jackson is a unique and especially focused filmmaker. Though he may veer off into tangential, self-indulgence sometimes (for example, see the overlong and unnecessary bug scene in King Kong), he is still a bold and surprising storyteller who at least continues to take risks and challenge the studios, as well as the movie-going public.

Besides all that, you gotta love a man who writes a script that includes a Kung-fu fighting Priest! "I kick ass for The Lord!" :)

There are two things in this world that will never not be funny no matter what happens in our culture:

1) Men in drag

2) Puppets talking dirty.

Proven. Fact.

I was thinking Heavenly Creatures as well... and God have mercy how much I love that movie.

I don't dislike any of his movie.s. But then I'm a sucker for low-budget horror. And if you cast Michael J. Fox in a movie and have him wearing the same outfit that he did in BttF I'm gonna love you forever.

I have also liked all of his films up until this one, which is why it was so disappointing. Well, I can only sort of tolerate the Bored of the Rings series but I always forget about those ones.
I love Meet The Feebles (which I snuck out to in the theater when I was fourteen. My first midnight movie. Sorry to get all Harry Knowles on you) The Freighteners, Heavenly Creatures and Forgotten Silver. Haven't seen Dead Alive in a long time.
Actually, watching LB made me both curious and apprehensive about revisiting some of the old favorites. The editing in the film is really clumsy and heavy handed. It made me cringe. When I brought it up in my AICN review a few of the talkbackers commented that his other movies are like that as well. I'm worried that it's the type of thing which now that i've noticed I'll never be able to ignore.
Though I can't imagine it would hurt Meet The Feebles that much.

To be fair, what am I supposed to think? I must have missed the fact that this movie was "done" already and that there were advanced screenings of it. Most of the time when somebody says, "I've seen that movie." months before a movie is supposed to release, they don't really have anything to back it up OR they've just seen some crappy leak that ends up being leagues different than the finished film.

You're comment just seemed so dismissive to me, and it didn't really have anything to do with the trailer. I probably would have been fine had you explained anything, but it was just a simple "this movie is bad" without any context. After putting in a bit of effort to write up the story, I felt a bit miffed that that was the first comment I got. My BS alarm went off, and I got a little carried away.

I assume that you are the Doc Ock review on that link (seeing as how it's the negative one? I find it interesting that you refer to it as "unfinished". So, the unfinished cut of The Lovely Bones didn't do it for you. There has already been a bunch of time between that screening and now, let alone the actual release date. Hopefully they will address your concerns, and the FINISHED movie will be good.

Judging solely by this trailer, I am really excited to see it.

Peter Jackson's never made a bad movie. I love what his career is becoming, he really his emulating Spielberg in the best way; Lovely Bones looks incredible; visually impressive and sentimantal without being obnoxious. AND in August we have a Peter Jackson Presents sci fi action flick Disctrict 9. Very cool stuff

Honestly Polygon, you're reaction surprises me. You're usually such a level headed character.
Do you really think I'd troll a site where I'm a regular commenter? I had assumed I'd established some kind of cred around here. If I were trying to make up stories to impress you all I like to think I'd be able to come up with something better than "I saw Lovely Bones early".

Do you really not believe me? The film's been done for a while, it was supposed to be released in May or March but they postponed it to add some more effects. They held an advanced screaning of it in Portland in April or May.
You can read my review here : http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40874
There are a few shots in the trailer that I don't think were in the cut I saw.

Okay, now to talk about the actual trailer....

I really like the look and feel of all the period footage. I especially like the slightly washed-out, yellowy color palette that looks both dated and modern at the same time. I also liked all the color-saturated "heaven" imagery, although not quite as much as the other footage. The Super Mario Galaxy-esque sphere was a bit amusing to see. I think Stanley Tucci looked really creepy, and I think that the main girl looked like she could be very interesting in the movie.

I am very interested to see if the film ends up having a slight Heavenly Creatures vibe to it. If so, I think that could possibly be a good thing. I have yet to see a Peter Jackson movie that I didn't like, and that includes the seedy Meet the Feebles and the self-indulgent King Kong. In fact, the only PJ-directed movies I haven't seen are Bad Taste and Forgotten Silver. Looks like it's time to visit my Netflix queue.

It's finally revealed! Rusty James is actually Peter Jackson! Or maybe he's invented time travel and has come back from the future to warn us of the poor quality of this movie!

Nobody has seen this movie yet, unless they are involved in the production. In fact, other than Peter Jackson himself, his editor and others like the sound mixers, I think the list of people who have seen the movie is pretty damned small. Like "I can count it with just my fingers" small. Additionally, they are most likely still editing the movie and will be for a few more weeks at least. Jackson seems to have a habit of turning in his final cut at the very last second.

So your claim of "I've seen this movie. It's bad." is either complete and utter bullshit or you are somehow heavily involved in the post production of the film. I'm betting on the former.
In the extremely unlikely case that I am wrong here and you actually HAVE seen the movie, I'll ask you a few things here: What didn't you like? Are the performances poor? Is the script horrible? Are the visuals not that impressive overall? Is the tone of the movie too disturbing? Is it too sugary sweet? Is the film so confusing that it doesn't really make any sense? Does it make sense, but it just isn't interesting? In short, why is the movie bad?

I suggest you trying adding something relevant and constructive to this conversation. Otherwise you're just wasting everybody's time.

Every part of my comment was sincere. If I were aiming for sarcasm hopefully I'd manage to be a little more clever.
