Del Toro and Lewis join Scorsese in “Silence”
Monday, February 2nd, 2009
The man who many consider to be America’s greatest filmmaker has announced his next directorial project.Martin Scorsese, whose previous film, The Departed, took home Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director (and is in my opinion home of the best Mark Whalberg performance ever.)has announced the title and plot of his new film. Silence, a drama set in the 17th century Japan, where a pair of Jesuit Priests (played by Benicio Del Toro and Daniel Day Lewis) are searching for their missing mentor while spreading their message of Christ the Lord to the natives of Japan.
I know this isn’t exactly “geeky” but even Scorsese’s lesser films are fascinating and anytime Daniel Day Lewis commits to a film, you can expect a performance worth your admission ticket.
This will defintely be on my must-see list for whatever year this film is scheduled for release. I’d say late 2010 is a safe bet.

Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.

A bit of a correction- Scorsese is currently wrapping up production on “Shutter Island,” a mystery/drama starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo that’s coming out in October. So “Silence” isn’t techically his post-”Departed” project. But it will probablly still be out by late 2010
well technically, Shine a Light was Scorsese’s post-”Departed” project
Wow, you know what? You’re right. I think I forgot about that one becuase I haven’t had a chnace to see it yet
I own this book, by Shusaku Endo, but still haven’t read it. It was cited as a major inspiration for a really cool sci fi book called Sparrow.
I really like Scorsese’s films, so I’ll definitely pay attention to this one.

Watched the original in my Japanese cinema course: quite good.
First thing I thought: Lewis’ big line in this is “I drink your f-ing milkshake!” Completely random. Movie sounds good though. Go Jesuits!
I’m saying its his best, but out of all of Marty’s films I find myself re-watching The Departed the most.
King of Comedy! I knew I was missing one. That should be in my 5 spot. That’s right, no Taxi Driver. I run hot and cold on that one.
