Introducing Geekshow Entertainments new Comic Critic, Rich Schepis.
Captain Wednesday
Your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Dude
What’s there to say? Well a lot actually, but I won’t bore you with all the details. Well, maybe just a little. I am the comic book guy at your local store (but probably not YOUR local store). After a 13-year hiatus where I tried to do the “real” job thing I rediscovered my roots and returned to where it all began – the planet Kyrpton (well, not really). I returned to comic books and the store I worked from 1992-94.
I have been writing comic reviews for the store website for about a year now. In fact, my previous career saw me writing all sorts of articles and such, so I have a little experience in that area.
I am going to get this out of the way right now – I am a mainstream comic book whore. I love my tights and I am not going to apologize for it. The first monthly comic book I actually purchased was DC’s Blue Devil (who SO needs his own book again and a big-screen adaptation). The X-Men followed shortly thereafter and the rest is as they say institutionalization.
I started reading comics during their true glory days (and no, not when Stan Lee started Marvel). I read the Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns as they came out monthly. I was a big John Byrne guy back in the day (not so much now) and will swear by his run of X-Men (with Chris Claremont) and Fantastic Four. And although I do love the big-boy scout, I am not a major fan of Byrne’s time on Superman for whatever reason. have some standards, thank you very much.
So there you have it, my influences in the world of comics or at least my humble beginnings. Nothing classic like watching Gwen Stacy getting thrown off a bridge or romanticizing about Will Eisner’s Spirit, that being said Ben Edlund’s run on The Tick is one of my fondest memories (especially when The Tick discovered his battle cry – SPOON!).
I am also a disciple of Joss Whedon, worshipping at the altar and owning every format of Dr. Horrible that is possible. My mettle for him could be tested one day if the Master decides to write a sonnet about solar energy, but in Joss I trust, so it will be great and is sure to warm my cockles (what exactly is a cockle?).
Today my reading pile consists of a lot of goodness – Buffy (hands down the best comic book of the last two years), Action, Detective, Fantastic Four, Northlanders, Madame Xanadu, I Hate Gallant Girl, Gemini, Powers (Bendis, I need more!), Thor and Legion of Super Heroes (long live Jim Shooter) – to just name a few.
You have stayed with me long enough. I hope you enjoy the weekly reviews, which I promise will always be spoiler free. Don’t forget to tip your stewardess on the way out – Peace.

Book of the Month
Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.

Welcome, welcome I am really looking forward to your reviews.
Technically, I know the answer is probably not but will you discuss superhero videos like New Frontier and Superman: Doomsday, etc… ?
Actually the answer is yes, I will absolutely be reviewing the animated superhero world and will probably have a recap up sometime soon to go over past titles. That being said, loved New Frontier; disappointed in Doomsday.
Awesome! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for some of the best comics of today. And, good to meet another disciple of The Master Whedon!
Welcomen! I eagerly look forward to what you’re peddling. :P
By the by, everyone needs to go out and read this new book I found (three issues out so far) called The Dreamer. Absurdly adorable if you like books that are meant for teen girls that are not in any way shape or form manga. :P
Speaking of teen girls, I am a big fan of the Minx line and actually own Token – I love Joelle Jones art … and Mike Carey’s P.L.A.I.N. Janes and follow up were very well done also.
I LOVED the Minx line. (Although point of correction Plain Janes was by Cecil Castellucci.) Token and Re-Gofters were my favorite. I was really mad at how DC decided to divorce themselves away from it though and cancel them.
Note: The Vanity fair Quote on the back of the earlier book “Clubbing”: “You don’t have to be a comic book geek to dig DC comics’ kicky new imprint, Minx.”
On the back of the later title, “Confessions of a Blabbermouth”: “You don’t have to be a comic book geek to dig… MINX.”
If this is a sample of your writing style for a review, count me in! I don’t even read comics, but I love well-written reviews.
Welcome, looking foward to reading.
I’m with Palaemon here. I don’t really read comics, but I like reading well-written reviews of things. I look forward to seeing what you have in store.
Hey man! Adam mentioned that you would be writing on the site but I sorta forgot about it. BTW, Buffy issue 22 comes out on my birthday *hint hint*
Welcome aboard, I look forward to your reviews and I’m sure Adam will enjoy discussing comics with you on another medium.
W00t! It’s good to have you aboard, friend. I’m looking forward to reading your stuff. See you on wednesday.
Can we try to get more of our IRL friends on here? :D
