2009: What I’m looking forward to
Saturday, January 3rd, 2009
With 2008 nothing but a fond memory (hopefully) its time to begin looking forward to the year ahead; 2009. Here’s a list (divided into helpful sections) of the things that I’m just dying to see/hear/play in the new year
Music- As lame as this is going to sound, the album that looking forward to the most is the new Green Day record. When American Idiot came out in 2004, it was the coolest thing I had ever heard and it rocked my eighth grade world. Will they’re new record be just as fantastic five years later? Also, I’m really excited about Lily Allen’s sophomore record It’s Not You, It’s Me; the new disc from Panic at the Disco (I hated their first album but loved Pretty. Odd.) The Decemberists’ The Hazards of Love and a rumored Yeah Yeah Yeahs record.
Film- Look, we all know about star Trek, Harry Potter, Wolverine and Watchmen. But I’m also dying to see I Love You, Man, James Cameron’s Avatar, the Johnny Depp/Christian Bale crime epic Public Enemies, the looong awaited Where the Wild Things Are and Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones.
Television- Lost. Lost. Lost. Oh, and I’m seriously considering getting Cinemax just so I can watch the Diablo Cody/Steven Spielberg love-child, The United Sates of Tara
What about you guys? What are you looking forward to?

Book of the Month
Y The Last Man Vol. 5In this final Deluxe Edition hardcover collecting Y #49-60, Yorick and Agent 355 prepare for their ultimate quest to reunite the last man with his lost love, while the person, people or thing behind the disaster that wiped out half of humanity is revealed. Then, Yorick Brown's long journey through an Earth populated only by women comes to its dramatic, unexpected conclusion.
Oh cool I didnt know about a new Decemberists CD.
The 80’s music lover in me is curious about the new Morrissey and Depeche Mode albums, and I’ll be waiting for any new’s for the rumourd albums by Massive Attack, Muse and Placebo.
You listed alot of the movies I want, but missed 9, Terminator, transformers 2, the wrestler, Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse, fanboys (if indeed it does come out), Kick-ass and Wolverine.
The rumored remakes for Highlander, red dawn , Short Circuit and 21 jump street seem so weird I have to go see them.
I’m right there with you on the Lily Allen album, I’ve heard the first single ‘The Fear’ I can’t wait for the full record.
For TV I can’t wait for the ext season of Madmen Dexter and Reaper.
The trailer to the Star Trek movie looks amazing and this is top of my list of what I’m looking forward to in 2009.
For TV, it has to be the new Doctor Who specials and the new mini series of Torchwood – Children Of Earth.
In gaming, I can’t wait for Ghostbusters and Gran Turismo 5.
I recently got a newish Decemberists ep and loved it. as for Green Day… i think they are officially dead to me. I didn’t much care for American Idiot.
Where the wild things are better be totally awesome. If it’s not I will be very upset. I’m also pretty jazzed about Coraline.
And if Ghostbusters doesn’t come out this year I’m going to have a hissy-fit…. It’s like the Chinese Democracy of the gaming world.
I am looking forward to a lot of (hopefully) great animation this year. Coraline looks great. Up should be a quality entry from Pixar at the very least. 9 looks to be a breath of fresh air for 3d animation (and should be great if it is as good as the short film was). Also, we finally get a brand new hand-drawn 2D Disney movie when The Princess and the Frog comes out at the end of the year. :D
Ah Caraline, I’d completely spaced on that one. Good catch
To be fair, TheAngryProjectionist mentioned it before I did.
I know you typoed… but in the book she’s always complaining when people mispronounce her name as “Caroline” instead of “Coraline.”
Made me giggle.
Coraline is actually on my list of potential names for my future child, assuming I ever have a daughter
My apologies to the angry Projectionist, good catch sir
What I’m really looking forward to is the third season of Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller adventures from Big Finish that starts in March
Holy crap I forgot about Coraline! I’m looking forward to that one as welll, I loved the book and Henry Selick is a genius.
Is Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse actually happening? That’s awesome, I thought it was just a video they made for fun
No idea about Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse, I seen it on a list of comming in 2009 movies and put it just in case.
For music I’m looking forward to the new Say Anything self titled album. I’m also kind of interested in the Green Day album as well.
TV? I would have say Dollhouse and the return of my beloved Reaper
Harry Potter, yes for sure. It was supposed to be released for my birthday initially and I made plans to go see it in IMAX with friends and then it got moved. So very keen for that to finally come out. Wolverine too a definite yes. Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street remakes as well, just cuz I am a huge horror fan and remakes intrigue me.
Television-wise, give me some more Lost and hopefully, hopefully, hopefully Dollhouse will be successful enough that it will last a little while and actually get screened here. *fingers crossed*. And season 4 of How I Met Your Mother.
I think the United States of Tara is on Showtime (same as Dexter) and not Cinemax. I think they’re putting it before or after Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
I’m looking forward to Transformers 2, for better or worse, GI Joe, Harry Potter, Watchman, Wolverine and Avatar.
Also can’t wait until Reaper comes back, Dollhouse, and hell yes, Lost. Scrubs coming back is pretty exciting too. Love that show. In fact, I think it starts this week.
Will definitely be picking up the new Green Day album. And look forward to the new Resident Evil game. :)
