Slumdog Millionaire was the bigger winner Sunday night, taking home Best Picture and Best Direction, but let’s not forget who won Best Supporting Actor. Over the past few years, writer/director Judd Apatow (’The 40-Year-Old Virgin,’ ‘Knocked Up’) has shown that nothing — not even losing your virginity or the miracle of childbirth — is sacred. About his third film behind the camera, he says, “I’m trying to make a very serious movie that is twice as funny as my other movies. Wish me luck!” Apatow directs Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann in ‘Funny People,’ the story of a famous comedian who has a near-death experience.

The film tells the story of Senn (Justin Long) and Mala (Evan Rachel Wood), two rebellious alien teens living on the beautiful planet Terra, a place that promotes peace and tolerance, having long ago rejected war and weapons of mass destruction. But when Terra is invaded by human beings fleeing a civil war and environmental catastrophe, the planet is plunged into chaos. During the upheaval, Mala befriends an injured human pilot (Luke Wilson) and each learns the two races are not so different from one another. Together they must face the terrifying realization that in a world of limited resources, only one of their races is likely to survive.

Everything I see from this movie just makes me more and more excited. Each TV spot looks at a different aspect of the movie, and reveal new insights into the plot. Who knew a Wolverine movie might be so cool…

What makes a Geek a Geek?

Exhibit A Pictures has released the first first teaser trailer for The People vs. George Lucas, a documentary that “delves into the impassioned feelings and opinions expressed by fans and foes of legendary screen icon George Lucas, and the many debates surrounding his legacy.

Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.

Her name was Alisa, she lived by the sea. Her life was pretty ordinary. She dreamed about the ballet, sang in a children’s choir and studied at a school for the mentally challenged. At the age of six she stopped speaking. At 17 she moved to Moscow and at exactly 18 she met Him…. and disappeared. That sort of thing happens all the time in the big city.

Warner Premiere has released a movie trailer for the animated direct-to-DVD adaptation of the comic book within the story of Watchmen – Tales of the Black Freighter.

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time. Way back. Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world – a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Shortened domestic trailer for Dragonball shows never before seen footage and effects from the film with an emphasis on the story’s prophesy. To beat Lord Piccolo, Goku (Justin Chatwin) teams with Master Roshi (Chow Yun-Fat).

The red band trailer for Observe and Report has been released exclusively by Moviefone. At the Forest Ridge Mall, head of security Ronnie Barnhardt (Seth Rogen) patrols his jurisdiction with an iron fist. The master of his domain, he combats skateboarders, shoplifters and the occasional unruly customer while dreaming of the day when he can swap his flashlight for a badge and a gun.

Despite the fact that The WB canceled Angel just a few years ago, their new network is ready to bring a new Vampire show back to the air waves. This time with “Vampire Diaries” a series of novels written by L.J. Smith.

Originally published in 1993 — which, as the CW took pains to note, was years before Stephenie Meyer launched her Twilight book franchise — Vampire Diaries revolves around a young woman who’s torn between two vampire brothers — one good, one evil — who are battling for her soul, and the souls of her pals, family and the small town where they live.

The CW has reunited with Dawson’s Creek scribe Kevin Williamson, who last produced Hidden Palms for the network.

“Vampire Diaries” comes from Alloy Entertainment, the same shingle whose past book series led to the CW’s series Gossip Girl and Privileged.

Bendis announced late last year that “Powers” would become a television series, but confirmed where the series would air in an interview today.

“‘Powers’ is in active development as a pilot at FX,” Bendis told MTV. “I just handed in a draft to the network and we’re getting our notes from the network as soon as this thing is over. So next week I’ll get the notes, and as long as they don’t involve sock puppets and some sort of orgy scene that I’m not interested in, then hopefully it will go in the right direction.”

Bendis went on to describe some of the trials and tribulations of bringing the series, which began as an independently published project and was eventually brought under Marvel’s publishing imprint Icon, to the small screen. “Powers” was optioned as a feature film in 2001, but the project never came to fruition.

“But they’re a very smart network,” added Bendis. “It seems like the right place for it to be.”

Though this has not been confirmed, a number of sources are claiming that this is indeed true.

Chuck Roven, the film’s producer had this to say, “You know, the problem… It’s not only a problem, I can’t really give you any information about The Flash. I can’t even confirm that Dan is on it. What I’m saying is, probably for about the last six months or so, the decision was made to really kind of, unless there was a DC character project that was ready to be green lit, to just not talk about it. So there’s nothing really that I can talk about at the moment.”
